Why caliche works so well for driveways. Unlike regular dirt which turns to mud in the rain and dust in the heat caliche stays firm under most conditions. When properly graded and compacted a caliche driveway can last for years with minimal maintenance. It drains reasonably well and provides a stable surface for trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment.

What does a caliche driveway project involve? A typical caliche driveway project includes:
